This Korouoma National Park and Frozen Waterfalls Hiking Adventure is a guided full-day tour through the unique winter landscapes of Korouoma National Park. Departing from Rovaniemi, this excursion offers participants the chance to see picturesque frozen waterfalls and explore a "frozen kingdom" amidst Finnish nature.
The tour has an approximate duration of 6 hours. It includes comfortable hotel pickup and drop-off in Rovaniemi.
The journey takes you to Korouoma National Park, located in the municipality of Posio. This park is renowned for its vast canyon and impressive frozen waterfalls during winter.
Upon arrival, you will embark on a guided hike along the official park trail, covering a distance of approximately 5 km. The winter scenery of Korouoma is described as magical, resembling a "snowglobe." The primary attraction during this hike is the opportunity to view massive frozen waterfalls. These ice formations, some reaching significant heights, are popular for ice climbing (though participation in ice climbing is not part of this hiking tour).
A stop is made at a wilderness camp for rest and lunch. Here, participants will learn practical Finnish survival skills, including how to chop firewood and how to make and light a fire in the snow.
Outdoor Lunch: A warm and satisfying lunch is served by the open fire, surrounded by deep snow and stillness - a true Arctic picnic experience. This break provides an opportunity to recharge and enjoy the tranquility of the wilderness.

You’ll spend several hours outdoors in cold and possibly snowy conditions, so dressing in layers is essential. We recommend wearing thermal underwear, a fleece or wool mid-layer, waterproof winter jacket and pants, a warm hat, scarf, gloves or mittens, and insulated boots. Please avoid jeans or cotton. We recommend bringing a small backpack, water bottle, and a camera or phone with a power bank to capture the icy landscapes.
We recommend not scheduling flights or long-distance transfers immediately after the tour. While the program is planned to last around 6 hours, weather and road conditions in Lapland can cause delays. Always allow extra time when booking multiple activities in one day.
Yes - the minimum age is 15 years, and participants should be comfortable with moderate physical activity, including hiking in snowy terrain and ascending or descending uneven paths. The tour is not suitable for guests with mobility issues. Please consult your doctor before joining if you have heart conditions, respiratory issues, or other health concerns.
In winter, Korouoma transforms into a frozen fairy tale. The park's deep canyon becomes home to enormous frozen waterfalls that shimmer in the cold Arctic air. These natural ice formations can reach up to 60 meters high and are considered among the most beautiful winter sights in Lapland. It's like walking inside a snow globe!
Please be on time! Our tours follow a strict schedule, and if you miss the hotel pick-up, you will not be able to join later. Arriving separately by taxi or private car is usually not possible, as it may disrupt the program and group safety. Plan ahead — we appreciate your understanding.
During the tour, your guide will prepare a cozy outdoor Arctic lunch over an open fire. The menu typically includes grilled barbecue sausages, fresh bread, vegetables, hot berry juice, and gingerbread cookies. You'll also have a chance to roast marshmallows over the fire - a sweet highlight of the day! If you have dietary restrictions or prefer to bring your own snacks, feel free to do so - we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
