ABOUT THIS TOUR

Husky & Reindeer Safari Combo - Rovaniemi: Meet the Arctic's Magnificent Animals (Family-Friendly)

This Arctic Animals Combo Safari offers a unique 3-hour adventure in Rovaniemi, combining two iconic Lapland experiences: a self-drive reindeer sleigh ride and a husky sleigh ride with a professional musher. Designed for all ages, this tour provides an excellent opportunity to meet magnificent Arctic animals, learn about their habits, and immerse yourself in Lappish culture amidst stunning winter landscapes.

What to Expect on Your Rovaniemi Arctic Animals Safari:

Your adventure begins with a convenient hotel pickup and drop-off in Rovaniemi. You will be transported to the authentic reindeer farm, which is the first stop of your journey.

Part 1: Authentic Reindeer Farm Experience & Sleigh Ride

  • Reindeer Farm Visit: Your first stop is a traditional Lappish Reindeer farm. Here, you will have the chance to meet friendly reindeer up close.
  • Reindeer Sleigh Ride: Experience a peaceful reindeer sleigh ride (approximately 500m) through the winter landscape, guided by professional herders.
  • Baby Reindeer Encounter: Visit an enclosure with baby reindeer and participate in their feeding, a unique and heartwarming interaction.
  • Traditional Herder's Home: Explore a traditional reindeer herder's home, which is over 100 years old, offering a glimpse into historical Lappish living.
  • Local Insights: Enjoy hot drinks while local Finnish herders, deeply knowledgeable about their craft, share fascinating information about reindeer herding work and daily life in the countryside.
  • Reindeer Driving License: As a unique souvenir, you will receive a symbolic Reindeer Driving License.

Part 2: Husky Kennel Visit & Sled Safari

  • Transfer to Husky Kennel: After the reindeer farm, you will be transferred to a nearby Husky Kennel.
  • Husky Kennel Walk: Take a walk around the park to see the lively husky pack.
  • Husky Sled Safari: Embark on an exhilarating 2km husky sled ride through the forest, experiencing the power and enthusiasm of the dog team. You will sit comfortably in the sled while a musher guides the dogs.
  • Informative Kota Visit: Following the sled safari, visit a traditional "kota" (Lappish hut) where you will receive an informative talk about huskies and enjoy more hot drinks.

Optional: Explore Santa Claus Village

  • Since the Husky Kennel is located at the Arctic Circle, guests have the option to stay and explore Santa Claus Village after the tour concludes, if they wish to continue their Arctic day at their own pace.

Frequently asked questions

(See all questions and answers here)
A:

Sometimes, but not reliably. Puppies are typically born in spring and grow quickly before winter. Our kennel focuses on the dogs’ welfare and does not time litters for tourist viewing. If seeing puppies is a priority, we recommend booking with a kennel that specifically offers that experience.

A:

The sleigh ride is gentle and not physically demanding, but guests who are pregnant or have medical conditions should consult their doctor before participating. The sleighs move smoothly, but uneven snowy terrain may cause slight bumps.

A:

The reindeer ride is about 500 meters and offers a peaceful glide through a snowy trail. The husky ride is 1–2 kilometers (depending on snow conditions) and provides an exciting, authentic experience with our energetic huskies. Both rides are guided and fully safe for children and adults alike.

A:

Please be on time! Our tours follow a strict schedule, and if you miss the hotel pick-up, you will not be able to join later. Arriving separately by taxi or private car is usually not possible, as it may disrupt the program and group safety. Plan ahead — we appreciate your understanding.

A:

Feel free to bring your own phone or camera, and ask the guide to help take photos of you with the reindeer or during the sleigh ride. While professional photos are not included, guides are happy to assist. Please note: Drones are not allowed during the tour, as they can disturb or frighten the animals and affect the peaceful atmosphere of the farm.

A:

Dress warmly! You’ll be outdoors for much of the tour. We recommend wearing thermal underwear, a fleece or wool mid-layer, a winter jacket and pants, a warm hat, gloves or mittens, and insulated boots. Temperatures can be cold, especially in December and January.
