This Lappish Lake Aurora Hunting Tour in a Lappish Tipi offers a unique and personalized Northern Lights experience in Rovaniemi, designed for guests seeking an intimate encounter with the Aurora Borealis away from large tourist crowds. This tour focuses on providing a small-group experience with dedicated attention from your guides in a cozy, traditional setting.
The evening begins with a comfortable hotel pick-up in Rovaniemi. Your evening guide will take you away from city lights into the tranquil Lappish countryside, specifically to a secluded spot by an Arctic lake.
The drive to our Arctic lake location takes you into the true beauty of Finland's wilderness. Our tours specialize in small groups, ensuring everyone receives full attention and a personalized experience. The aim is to provide a quiet evening on the Arctic lake.
Upon arrival at the lake, you'll enter a cozy Finnish tipi tent. This traditional Lappish structure offers warmth and comfort. Inside, you'll gather around a crackling campfire, where juicy sausages (or vegetarian options upon request at time of booking) are prepared for barbecue. Hot drinks and snacks are also served, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
During this time, your guide will share stories of life in Lapland, providing background information about the area and the fascinating phenomenon of the Northern Lights.
From the comfort and seclusion of our tipi camp by the lake, you will have the opportunity to witness the Northern Lights as they appear in the sky. The remote location away from light pollution, combined with the calm atmosphere, optimizes your chances for observation. Even locals, though used to seeing the Aurora, never take its beauty for granted. Each display feels like a gift from the Arctic sky.
The entire adventure typically lasts for 3-4 hours, providing ample time to enjoy the evening and the potential Aurora display.

The best season to witness the Northern Lights in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, is typically during the dark months, from late August/early September until early April. Within this period, the longer nights and colder, clearer weather often provide optimal conditions for observing the Aurora Borealis.
Please be on time! Our tours follow a strict schedule, and if you miss the hotel pick-up, you will not be able to join later. Arriving separately by taxi or private car is usually not possible, as it may disrupt the program and group safety. Plan ahead — we appreciate your understanding.
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and unfortunately, their appearance can never be guaranteed. Our guides do everything possible to maximize your chances, including checking forecasts, choosing the best locations, and sharing their expertise about the Aurora.
However, the cost of the tour covers much more than just the chance to see the lights - it includes professional guiding, transportation, hot drinks, campfire experiences, storytelling, and the unique atmosphere of being in the Arctic wilderness at night. For this reason, refunds are not provided if the Northern Lights do not appear.
We truly appreciate your understanding and hope the overall experience will still be a magical and memorable part of your Lapland adventure.
The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and their appearance can never be guaranteed. Their visibility depends entirely on clear skies (lack of cloud cover) and sufficient solar activity. Our tours are meticulously planned during the optimal season and take you to prime viewing locations away from city light pollution to maximize your chances, but nature remains unpredictable.
Proper clothing is crucial for comfort and safety in Arctic conditions. Participants are responsible for bringing their own suitable outerwear. We highly recommend dressing in multiple warm layers, including thermal underwear (a must), a mid-layer such as fleece or wool, warm socks (preferably two pairs), insulated winter trousers and jacket, a warm hat, scarf or neck gaiter, and thick mittens or gloves. Footwear should be winter-rated and insulated to keep your feet warm in the snow.
We also recommend bringing heat pads or hand/foot warmers - they can make a big difference in extreme cold.
During the tour, your guide will light a cozy campfire and serve hot drinks to help you stay warm and comfortable while waiting for the Aurora. On very cold nights, the vehicle will always be kept nearby so you can warm up inside whenever needed.
Experience ultimate Northern Lights viewing with Rovaniemi's Aurora Pass. Our expert guides use a "go where sky is clear" strategy, offering nightly tours (3-5 days) to prime spots. Includes campfire, tips & comfort.
