Frequently asked questions

(See all questions and answers here)
A:

The best season to witness the Northern Lights in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, is typically during the dark months, from late August/early September until early April. Within this period, the longer nights and colder, clearer weather often provide optimal conditions for observing the Aurora Borealis.

A:

The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and their appearance can never be guaranteed. Their visibility depends entirely on clear skies (lack of cloud cover) and sufficient solar activity. Our tours are meticulously planned during the optimal season and take you to prime viewing locations away from city light pollution to maximize your chances, but nature remains unpredictable.

A:

Our professional Northern Lights guides employ a flexible strategy to maximize your viewing chances. They constantly monitor real-time weather forecasts, cloud cover, and Aurora activity levels. Based on this data, they will lead the tour to the best possible viewing locations each night, venturing away from city lights to remote, dark spots like frozen lakesides, forest clearings, or hilltops around the Rovaniemi region.

A:

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and unfortunately, their appearance can never be guaranteed. Our guides do everything possible to maximize your chances, including checking forecasts, choosing the best locations, and sharing their expertise about the Aurora.

However, the cost of the tour covers much more than just the chance to see the lights - it includes professional guiding, transportation, hot drinks, campfire experiences, storytelling, and the unique atmosphere of being in the Arctic wilderness at night. For this reason, refunds are not provided if the Northern Lights do not appear.

We truly appreciate your understanding and hope the overall experience will still be a magical and memorable part of your Lapland adventure.

A:

Proper clothing is crucial for comfort and safety in Arctic conditions. Participants are responsible for bringing their own suitable outerwear. We highly recommend dressing in multiple warm layers, including thermal underwear (a must), a mid-layer such as fleece or wool, warm socks (preferably two pairs), insulated winter trousers and jacket, a warm hat, scarf or neck gaiter, and thick mittens or gloves. Footwear should be winter-rated and insulated to keep your feet warm in the snow.

We also recommend bringing heat pads or hand/foot warmers - they can make a big difference in extreme cold.

During the tour, your guide will light a cozy campfire and serve hot drinks to help you stay warm and comfortable while waiting for the Aurora. On very cold nights, the vehicle will always be kept nearby so you can warm up inside whenever needed.

A:

Please be on time! Our tours follow a strict schedule, and if you miss the hotel pick-up, you will not be able to join later. Arriving separately by taxi or private car is usually not possible, as it may disrupt the program and group safety. Plan ahead — we appreciate your understanding.

Alex was right on time to fetch us at our AIRBNB. We were lucky to see the Northern Lights on the first night. Alex was great with helping in the photograph. The sausage and hot drinks also helped a lot

We had 3 small children with us and this was a good option as the staff were very accommodating. We went twice and managed to see the lights the second time. It would be good if the staff were able to take photos of us, maybe even bring their own cameras as it was already expensive and difficult to justify buying a camera to see something that may not occur. To the naked eye the lights were ok.... but much better when photographed.

Missed the lights!

We took this mini van tour with our guide Alex. It was just our family of 5 and two other women. It was a cloudy night so our hopes weren’t too high in seeing the Northern Lights. And as it turned out we unfortunately didn’t see them but had a fun night all the same. Alex was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Would recommend this tour, especially if you have young children!

Well organized and very considerate guide Alex

It was frozen night -25. And yes, we managed to view the aurora from camera . We’re group of 4 people from Asia . Not used to this type of coldness. Alex was very considerate , he let us stay in vehicle and on the engine to keep us warmth.
