ABOUT THIS TOUR

Traditional Finnish Sauna & Ice Dip by a Arctic Lake – Rovaniemi: Feel the Real Lapland

Experience an authentic Finnish sauna tradition during your stay in Rovaniemi. This 3 to 3.5-hour experience takes you away from the busy city to a peaceful lakeside location surrounded by the beautiful nature of Lapland.

‍

Travel from Rovaniemi with your English-speaking guide and discover one of Finland's most beloved traditions. Enjoy a traditional wood-fired sauna, take a refreshing dip in the icy lake during winter, or cool off in the snow after warming up in the sauna.

‍

This shared group experience is a great way to relax, try something new, and experience Finnish sauna culture in a natural setting away from crowded tourist areas.

‍

What to Expect on Your Authentic Finnish Experience:

Your experience begins with a convenient pick-up in Rovaniemi. Sit back and enjoy the approximately 30-minute drive to our lakeside sauna location, where you can experience Finnish sauna culture surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of Lapland.

‍

Part 1: Traditional Wood-Fired Sauna Experience

  • Authentic Sauna: Authentic Sauna Experience: Enjoy a traditional Finnish sauna heated with a wood-burning stove, not an electric heater. Learn about the importance of sauna in Finnish culture and daily life while enjoying the warmth at your own pace.
  • Relaxation & Culture: Whether this is your first sauna experience or you are already familiar with the Finnish tradition, you will have time to relax, warm up, and enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings.

‍

Part 2: Invigorating Ice Swimming / Snow Rolling

  • Arctic Challenge: Step from the warmth of a traditional wood-fired Finnish sauna into the refreshing cold of an Arctic lake. In winter, take a dip in our specially maintained ice hole, kept open throughout the freezing season. Experience one of Finland's most memorable sauna traditions in the heart of Lapland.
  • Bucket List Moment: Stepping into the icy water is more than just a challenge - it’s a celebration of courage and presence. Many describe it as a moment of clarity and exhilaration, a story to tell for years.
  • Winter Adaptation: In winter conditions with deep snow, participants may also opt for a refreshing roll in the snow, a common practice after a warm sauna. This activity provides a unique sensory contrast.
  • Guided & Safe: Your guide will explain everything and ensure the process is safe and comfortable. You’ll be able to try it at your own pace – no pressure, just opportunity.

‍

Part 3: Relax and Enjoy the Natural Surroundings

  • After your sauna session, take some time to relax and enjoy the quiet lakeside setting. Drinking water and hot tea are provided to keep you refreshed throughout your visit.
  • The experience is shared with other travellers, with a maximum group size of 14 participants. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the sauna tradition together while escaping the busy tourist areas around Rovaniemi.
  • Northern Lights Opportunity
  • For evening departures during the darker months, you may have a chance to see the Northern Lights during your visit. Aurora sightings depend on weather conditions, darkness, and solar activity, so they cannot be guaranteed. The main focus of this tour is the Finnish sauna experience.

‍

This small-group tour is designed to ensure a personalized and intimate experience, allowing for full attention from the guides and a genuine connection with the Lappish countryside.

Amazing Memories

We went on 2 tours: "Rovaniemi sightseeing and Santa Village" and "Finnish Home and Sauna". Everything was very organised and perfect. Pedro was our guide on both and we could not have been happier. Pedro was very knowledgeable and friendly. We are a family of 4, childrens age being 18 and 20 and he was able to engage everyone. Also Alex was very helpful during the decision/booking process. Thank you both for such amazing experiences and memories

The Home and Wood Burned tour was terrific, short drive from city center and you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. The tour guides give you full autonomy, let you go from sauna to swimming as you please and then cook a nice meal for afterwards in a cozy cottage.Well worth it.

Family-friendly sauna & ice swimming experience.

February 26, 2022

Amazing experience, it was perfect for our family, we were looking for a sauna/ice-swimming experience, but having a 9 year old and 2 year old, our options were limited, until we found this trip. My husband and eldest daughter were able to do the sauna & swim, whilst I played in the snow with our youngest, there was also a lodge where we could go if we wanted to. Then we swapped and I had a turn! Finished off with delicious food and hospitality. Once in a lifetime experience, now ticked off the bucket list… but would love to do it again!

This tour was FANTASTIC!Booking was easy and confirmation of pick up times were clear. Our guide (Alex) picked us up on time and gave us lots of great information about the area on our way to the tour.We received a very friendly welcome by Alex and his wife to their home, the facilities were very authentic. The location was out of this world! The sauna was fantastic with lots of amenities in the changing area too like towels, flip flops, hot and cold drinks.Highly recommend the ice swimming then popping back into the sauna afterwards! We had 2 hours to dip between the swimming and sauna before a lovely lunch was prepared for us in the cabin with a warm fire.A 5* tour with 5* hosts - highly recommend.

Absolutely brilliant!

Absolutely amazing! We were hosted by Alex & Tanya at their property for one of the best experiences we had during our trip to Rovaniemi.Alex collected us from our hotel in the city and drove us out to his family property were we were introduced to Tanya, his wife, who was so welcoming and genuinely seemed happy that we were there. We started with the wood burning sauna and when we were confident enough we embraced ice dipping in the families own lake. The snow as cold under foot on the way down to the lake (there were disposable slippers if you wanted them) and the frozen lake was SO cold but it was an amazing experiences and definitely got the heart going. We were in and out of the sauna and the lake a couple of times so we could fully experience this activity, and what an experience it was.Once we’re were finished we went up to the family ‘Kota’ where Tanya had prepared a light supper of traditional sausages, salad, homemade potato cakes and of course the obligatory hot berry juice (I really love the berry juice!). There were also cinnamon cookies for dessert if we wanted them. Alex & Tanya spent time with us talking to us about the area and all sorts of things, it was like being hosted by friends. This really was a well organised and professional excursion, run by two absolutely lovely people.Kiitos Alex and Tanya 🥰
